One of my favorite genre movies of the last decade is the crimanlly underrated BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON. The originality alone of this little diddy completely blew this schmuck away so it should come as no surprise that whenever an update on the film’s sequel BEFORE THE MASK: THE RETURN OF LESLIE VERNON comes popping up that I pounce on that shite and bring it to your attention. And that’s exactly what I’m doing today!
Last we heard on the project director Scott Glosserman was having trouble scoring financing for the flick and turned to the fans for help. Well folks it seems that has paid off because not only has Glosserman and company already raised $15,000 for the film, but the success of this stint has caught the attention of an unnamed investor group that has promised to match whatever Glosserman raises up to half a million bucks! So that puts the standing total as of this article at around $30,000. Nice! Things are shaping up for this one!
How might you invest in BEFORE THE MASK? I’m glad you asked. If you pop on over to the film’s Facebook page you can pre-order the film on DVD or Blu-Ray, as well as purchase various other MASK collectibles, and all the proceeds go directly towards the film’s financing. Before the Mask will pick up where Behind the Mask left off with Vernon disappointed that his fame did not catch on but ready to get back to work. With Before the Mask, Glosserman seeks to create a spreemake, or a mash-up of a sequel, prequel, and remake, that will deconstruct and comment on the archetypes of prequels, sequels, and remakes.
