Fans of Vin Diesel’s “Riddick” character took a right-hook to the jaw last month when the news trickled down from Montreal that production on the new Riddick film had been shut down indefinitely. Reason was that Mel’s Studios, the facility where the movie is based, had locked the doors on Vin Diesel, director David Twohy, and the rest of the unit thanks to lack of funds. (In other words, Vin’s production company – One Race Films – had not forked over a check.) Further complicating matters: the fact that several crew members also hadn’t received paychecks on time.
Obviously, the situation looked grim, but not insurmountable. After all, one has to figure that Mr. Diesel is living the life thanks to those FAST & FURIOUS bucks alone.
Lo and behold, the crisis seems to have been averted. TMZ is reporting that the man who owns the Montreal studio where the film is being shot has been paid the necessary fees and will open the doors again for Diesel and company. Filming will apparently get back underway on DECEMBER 28th.
The gossip site also notes that the crewmembers who are still waiting their compensation will get their money in due time. Hooray for getting paid!
