This returning Jurassic Park character is sure to please fans

I take it that if you’re reading this, you WANT to know which character will be making a return trip in JURASSIC WORLD, but suffice it to say that this is a mild spoiler, at best. And no, I’m not talking about Dr. Wu. In the last trailer for JURASSIC WORLD, we caught a mild glimpse of a T-Rex gulping down some food. The Tyrannosaurus has been weirdly absent from the trailers and probably for good reason. It looks as though the same T-Rex who saved the day in the original JURASSIC PARK will also be featured in JURASSIC WORLD!

Writer/director Colin Trevorrow on the returning character:

The T. Rex in this movie is the same T. Rex from JURASSIC PARK. She’s been on the island for 22 years. She’s still alive. She’s a little older, and she’s angry. All of these animals to me are as important in the cast as the humans. It’s been fascinating to find kinds of behavior because they go through such an evolution over the course of the movie. If people see this movie and aren’t as blown away by these images as I am, I’ll be disappointed.

The T-Rex was given a raw deal in JURASSIC PARK III, but I’m hoping Trevorrow will rectify that transgression in WORLD. I know there a lot of folks who were unimpressed with the abundance of CGI in the last trailer, especially compared with the practical effects used in the original JURASSIC PARK. While it’s hard to judge the performance of the dinosaurs without seeing the entire film, it may please some of you to know that Phil Tippett, who served as dinosaur supervisor on the original film, returned in that capacity to JURASSIC WORLD utilizing the latest tech. For example, each of Chris Pratt‘s raptors in the film were actually performance-captured (a la DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) in order to lend them distinct personalities. Now THAT’S a behind-the-scenes featurette I’d like to see!

JURASSIC WORLD hits theaters on June 12, 2015.
