Thor gives Loki a second chance in the first clip from Thor: The Dark World

Disney has released the first clip from THOR: THE DARK WORLD and it is from the scene in the trailer where Loki utters his mischevious line “where do we start?” You would think that there isn’t much more to this moment, but there most certainly is. In fact, the tension is palpable between Thor and Loki and Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston sell it very well. You can tell that Thor doesn’t trust Loki while Loki is looking for any opportunity to get his revenge.

While this is a much quieter scene that what the trailers have shown, THOR: THE DARK WORLD looks like it is going to capitalize on the direction from Alan Taylor and deliver great action set pieces alongside some damn fine character work. Hiddleston and Hemsworth are definitely all in for their roles now, no longer trying to feel out the entire back story for each of their iconic characters. THOR: THE DARK WORLD is going to drop us right into the action and take it from there.

In the aftermath of Marvel’s THOR and THE AVENGERS, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

I am a hell of a lot more excited for THOR: THE DARK WORLD than I was for the original. I love that the movie is grittier and darker than Kenneth Branagh‘s version, delivering a truly epic film for a larger than life character. I still hold out hope that someday we will get a Donald Blake storyline for the Marvel hero, but until then I am happily excited for this movie.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. It hits theaters on November 8th.
