Thor: Love and Thunder grossed $29 million in Thursday previews that began at 3:00 PM. Per Deadline, this is the second-best preview launch of 2022 behind only another Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which took in $36 million in previews back in May. Another key difference, while tentpoles recently have boosted their previews numbers with special showings on a Tuesday or Wednesday, Thor: Love and Thunder is from Thursday ticket sales alone.
The preview numbers for this latest Marvel release place it fifth for the MCU behind Avengers: Endgame ($60 million), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($50 million), Avengers: Infinity War ($39 million), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Thursday preview figure makes my $160 million opening prediction a distinct possibility but we will have to see if the film is frontloaded at all and if reviews will hurt attendance. As of this writing, the Rotten Tomatoes score has dipped to 68%.
