Timo Tjahjanto, Scott Derrickson team up for mystery project

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It was just announced five months ago that genre regular Timo Tjahjanto will be directing the English-language remake of Train to Busan for New Line Cinema and producer James Wan, but while gearing up for that project Tjahjanto has also been working on a mystery project with Scott Derrickson and his writing partner C. Robert Cargill.

Tjahjanto and Derrickson revealed their collaboration by taking to their social media accounts and sharing a shot of the cover of the script the trio have written together – with some key details blocked by emojis. A skull emoji hides the title, all we can see is that it's The and a word that starts with H and ends with R. Below that are a list of title cards, with the last two numbers in a date hidden by a snake emoji.

The year is 20–.

Society is screwed. Crime and violence have risen steadily in all remaining regions of planet Earth.

Most of Asia has been unified.

Tjahjanto, Derrickson, and Cargill completed a draft of this mystery script on July 22nd.

It will be interesting to see what exactly this project is, because it's very cool to see this trio working together. Tjahjanto's credits include directing segments of the anthology films The ABCs of Death and V/H/S/2, as well as the feature films May the Devil Take You, May the Devil Take You Too, The Night Comes for Us, and Headshot, among others. Derrickson and Cargill wrote Derrickson's films Sinister, Doctor Strange, and the upcoming Joe Hill adaptation The Black Phone together, and also wrote Sinister 2 for Ciaran Foy to direct.

We'll keep you updated on this Tjahjanto / Derrickson / Cargill project as more information is revealed.
