A former James Bond joins a former Bond girl in Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful”. Timothy Dalton has just joined the series, which is being produced by (wouldn’t you know it) SKYFALL’s Sam Mendes and John Logan; Eva Green (CASINO ROYALE) and Josh Hartnett had already been on board.

“Penny Dreadful” will weave together the origins of literary horror characters, such as Victor Frankenstein, Frankenstein’s monster, Dorian Gray, and Count Dracula, as they grapple with their monstrous alienation in Victorian London.

Dalton is set to play “Sir Malcolm,” a hardened African explorer on a deeply personal quest. Meanwhile, Hartnett plays Ethan Chandler, a man of action and daring who isn’t afraid of violence. He’s charming and brash, but there are demons behind his eyes. Green will play Vanessa, the singular female of the story. She’s enigmatic with haunted eyes and utterly composed. She will prove herself a force to be reckoned with and the heroine of the series.

Filming on “Penny Dreadful” commences this October in the U.K.; Juan Antonio Bayona (THE ORPHANAGE) helms the first two episodes. The first season will last a total of eight episodes
