Director Timur Bekmambetov (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, WANTED) brings to life the classic tale of a falsely accused nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his best friend who betrayed him. That's right! We're talking maritime battles, chariot races and a slice of Jesus! It's BEN-HUR! Check out the first trailer below!
Like most people, I had very little faith going into this thing. Granted, the end result doesn't look like anything special, but it doesn't look NEARLY as bad as I thought it would. The Charlton Heston classic is there for people who want it, and I'm sure there's going to be a whole group of people who see this new one that aren't familiar with the original. If Bekmambetov can inject some fun into this sword and sandal epic, I think we'll have a decent time come this August.
BEN-HUR will open in theaters on August 12, 2016.
