Tippett on 1-18-08

Cloverfield, 1-18-08, whatever you want to call it – I really wish they’d let loose with a title already because the buzz has seriously dropped for the J.J. Abrams monster-mash in the past 2 months… Perhaps that’s a good thing, as it seemed to reach a “oh enough already!” point in terms of fan reaction and interest – so maybe it needs time off to get its act together and prepare for another (hopefully more detailed) marketing onslaught.

One very cool piece of info that has recently risen from the project is that Phil Tippett – the effects genius who has worked on flicks like ROBOCOP, STARSHIP TROOPERS, and JURASSIC PARK – is in charge of whatever the hell it is tearing New York a new a-hole in the Matt Reeves-directed film.

That’s very cool news for someone like myself, who grew up in awe of the visions this man created. (ED-209 is still an ass-kicker, no matter how dated – watch below for one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.) In my opinion, 1-18-08 just got a huge boost in the “hells yeah!” department.

‘Somebody want to call a goddamn paramedic?!”
