Titane trailer: Julia Ducournau’s Raw follow-up delivers gore & body horror

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Five years after director Julia Ducournau disturbed viewers with her feature debut Raw (watch it HERE), she's back with Titane. The new film is being described as a "Cronenbergian body horror film", and it seems to have blown the audience away at its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The NSFW trailer for Titane can be seen above, and yeah, this does look like a heavy dose of insanity. How insane does it get? The Indiewire review describes it as "the sweetest movie ever made about a serial killer who has sex with a car". That's… intriguing.

The official synopsis gives nothing away:

Following a series of unexplained crimes, a father is reunited with the son who has been missing for 10 years.

That is very simple and dull, which Titane does not appear to be. The synopsis also gives us a definition of the word titane:

Titane: A metal highly resistant to heat and corrosion, with high tensile strength alloys, often used in medical prostheses due to its pronounced biocompatibility.

The film stars Agathe Rousselle, Vincent Lindon, Garance Marillier, and Lais Salameh.

Produced by Jean-Christophe Reymond and executive produced by Christophe Hollebeke, Titane is being released in France today, July 14th, by Diaphana Distribution. Altitude Film Distribution and Film4 are teaming up for the UK and Ireland release, and Neon picked up the North American rights. The dates when Titane will be reaching countries other than France have not yet been announced.

I was already on board to watch anything Ducournau made after Raw, her second film was always going to be a curiosity that I would need to check out, but the word-of-mouth on Titane is now extremely positive – Vice even called it “a new gory masterpiece”. So this definitely seems like it's going to be one of the must-see movies of the year.
