What are you gonna do when the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE comes?!?
Variety has it that TENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES co-creator and longtime Robert Rodriguez collaborator, Carlos Gallardo, has teamed with exec-producer Kevin Eastman, to set up a doomsday film of the undead. You guessed it, it’s called ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.
Word is action-director Chee Keong Cheung (UNDERGROUND, BODYGUARD: A NEW BEGINNING) will helm the martial-arts-horror mash-up, working from a script he co-wrote with Mark Strange and Steve Horvath. Intense Productions, a UK based company, wants to turn the project into a filmic trilogy, with a graphic-novel tie-in to launch in the near future.
In “Zombie Apocalypse,” when zombies start to take control of the world they turn into malevolent versions of their former selves with any previous physical combat skills enhanced to almost superhuman level, making eradication near impossible. A squad of eight Special Forces soldiers are assigned a suicide mission to rescue a scientist from a city ruled by the undead.
Sounds like an exorbitant J-horror outing to me…wildly campy and over the top. Martial arts incorporated into a zombie film sounds like it has the potential to be pretty f*ckin awesome. Let’s hope Cheung does this sucker right!
