Toks Olagundoye

Casting continues for the pilot episode of the Tremors mini-series that will see Kevin Bacon reprising the role of Valentine McKee nearly thirty years after the original TREMORS film. So far Bacon's co-stars include Emily Tremaine as Val's disapproving daughter Emily; Megan Ketch as Mindy Sterngood, a character who was a little girl in the original TREMORS and has grown up to be a doctor who has a fixation on Val; and Shiloh Fernandez as Nico Garza, who works in Earl's Graboid Waste Gobbling company.

Now added to the cast list is Toks Olagundoye as Jessica Florence. "An accomplished, city-chic civil engineer, Jessica’s arrival in Perfection, Nevada instantly piques the curiosity of Val. But Jessica’s in town for work, not play: she’s been contracted by the enterprising Melvin to expand the access road."

Among Olagundoye's credits are 22 episodes of the TV series Castle and 44 episodes of the show The Neighbors.

What's really intriguing to me about the description of Olagundoye's character is the fact that she works for "the enterprising Melvin". Certain quotes have led us to believe that the mini-series will only be taking the first TREMORS movie into account, ignoring the sequels and TV series that Kevin Bacon wasn't in. However, Melvin was just an annoying teenager in TREMORS. It was in the sequels and series we thought this was ignoring where it was established that Melvin grew up to be enterprising and unscrupulous. Could this be in continuity with the rest of the TREMORS franchise after all?

Written by Andrew Miller, the mini-series has the following synopsis:

The killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, NV, 25 years ago are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee, who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

While SPLICE director Vincenzo Natali takes the helm of the mini-series pilot, TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES director Don Michael Paul is busy putting the finishing touches on the upcoming sequel TREMORS 6. Star Michael Gross posted a small but somewhat disappointing update about the sequel on his Facebook page: although Universal had been aiming to get TREMORS 6 out on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on January 30, 2018, that plan has now changed. The release has been pushed back to sometime in May. Well, at least it's only an extra few months to wait.

Scripted by TREMORS 3 and 5 writer John Whelpley, TREMORS 6 tells this story:

Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) and his son Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy) find themselves up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters when they head to Canada to investigate a series of deadly giant-worm attacks. Arriving at a remote research facility in the artic tundra, Burt begins to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized, but before he can prove his theory, he is sidelined by Graboid venom. With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom — but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid!
