During the second half of 2011, one of the topics I would write about the most (or felt like) was THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The adaptation of the original series that ran from 1968-1968 finally fell into the hands of Guy Ritchie after Steven Soderbergh gave it up. Then it was a game of trying to get some leads for the flick. Rumors swirled that Bradley Cooper, George Clooney and Alexander Skarsgard were all once in the running for one of the parts. The only part that ever stuck was Ritchie. Now it looks like one of the blockbuster kings has his eye on the project.
Tom Cruise is said to be in early talks for the action franchise. The 60s series followed, “Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, two agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement. With gadgets and their wits and charm, they fought the evil forces of Thrush.”
If he takes on the project, this will be one of two franchises that he is currently involved with at the time. Christopher McQuarrie is developing another installment of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, and will possibly direct Cruise. Then there’s a JACK REACHER sequel on the horizon. Then there’s Doug Liman‘s ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, which was recently wrapped. When that was completed, Warner Bros. swooped in and started talks with the actor.
