Tom Holland on his future as Spider-Man: “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me”

There was a time when Tom Holland openly questioned how much longer he wanted to play Spider-Man, but those doubts now appear to be firmly behind him. With the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland will have portrayed the iconic Marvel hero in seven feature films—not counting his cameo in Venom: Let There Be Carnage—and he has no intention of hanging up the web-shooters anytime soon.

Bring on Old-Man Spidey!

At the recent Los Angeles premiere for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland was asked by THR about his future as the character. “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me,” he said. “So if this movie does good, I guess we’ll see!“

I think it’s a fair bet that Brand New Day will do quite well. The movie is currently estimated to debut with $465 million worldwide. This would give Sony Pictures its 2nd biggest opening of all time, behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened with a staggering $600.5 million worldwide.

Since his debut in Captain America: Civil War, Holland has been Spider-Man for a full decade, the longest continuous run of any Spidey actor.

“There’s a family here at Marvel and Sony. We’ve been making these movies for 10 years and we’re all really good friends and we all still really love working with together and there’s a shorthand, there’s a collaboration, there is a shared love for this character that is Peter Parker,” he reflected. “When we all get together, it always feels like something magical happens, and to get to do it time and time again is something that will never really sink in for me. It still feels like this is my first-ever premiere for this character. It has been the gift of my life.“

As I mentioned at the top of the article, Holland had previously wondered whether it wasn’t time for him to move on. “Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film,” he said in 2021. “I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.“

Holland is now 30 years old, and his latest comments indicate that he’s not done playing Spider-Man, not by a long shot. Would you like to see Holland as Spider-Man for another 10 years?
