Earlier this week, Tom Holland said that he would keep playing Spider-Man for “as long as they’ll have me,” but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a plan for someone else to take on the mantle of Spidey.
Tom Holland’s Replacement?
While chatting with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland revealed that he has a “clear vision” for passing the character to someone else.
“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Holland said. “It’s laid out. It’s gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.“
He continued, “I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it. But that is the thing I want to do most in this character, for sure.“
That doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll see another Peter Parker (although anything is possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), but Holland did tell the Associated Press that he has a “desire to bring Miles Morales to the screen” and to “shepherd the lucky young kid who gets that job,” much like Robert Downey Jr. did for him when he got the role.
I would love to see Miles appear in the MCU, but I imagine Sony and Marvel will wait until after the Spider-Verse movies wrap up.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Finally Here!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters, and it’s shaping up to be a huge success. The film has already broken an opening night record, bringing in $72 million in its Thursday night previews. That places it above Avengers: Endgame, which took in $60 million in 2019. Could Brand New Day wind up becoming bigger than Avengers: Doomsday?
