Tony Todd joins sci-fi flick Marfa

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I don't know about you but I can go ahead and assume that – like me – one of your favortie genre actors out there is Mr. Tony Todd. From roles in such classics as director Bernard Rose's adaptation of Clive Barker's CANDYMAN to his turn as the shape of death in (most) of the FINAL DESTINATION movies, Todd is one of the best go-tos for modern horror good times.

And speaking of Tony Todd today we have word that the actor has just joined the cast of writer-director Andy Stapp's MARFA. The dystopian sci-fi film is all set to kick off principal photography this month and (hopefully) terrifying tale of:

Four lifelong friends who decide to veer off the road and venture into a small West Texas town known as Marfa.

So THAT'S where the title comes from. Half of me thought maybe the powers that be behind the press release we were sent had managed to misspell MAFIA. But all is well and good as the name now makes sense. That said, I expect it to change before release. I guess we'll see one of these days.

In addition to Todd, the cast also includes Stelio Savante (Running For Grace, Ugly Betty), Tracy Perez (East Los High, Charlie Says), Richard Riehle (The Man From Earth, Casino), Neil Sandilands (The Flash, Hap and Leonard), and Lisa Roumain (Westworld, Avatar). Stapp is making his directorial debut from his own script and is also executive producing. Stelio Savante and Starla Christian are producers.

The film begins shooting this month. We'll make sure to keep up to date on the movie and pass along word as we hear it. Meanwhile, you can check out the teaser poster below and then make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think of first-time writer-director Andy Stapp's MARFA below.
