Word has just come down the wire that Top Gun: Maverick is flying away from its July 2 weekend for a November 19 release, thus taking the place of Paramount/Skydance's Mission: Impossible 7. Due to the shift, Mission: Impossible 7 will now open on May 27, 2022, Memorial Day weekend. Meanwhile, Mission: Impossible 8 is now being moved to July 7, 2023, instead of November 4, 2022.
With Top Gun: Maverick exiting its Fourth of July weekend opening, Sony's Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway will stand a better chance of collecting more carrots at the box office, so to speak. Additionally, after hearing that Top Gun: Maverick was going back to the hanger, Universal shifted The Forever Purge into the July 2 slot.
With Top Gun: Maverick moving to November, that means the long-awaited sequel will compete with Warner Bros/HBO Max’s Will Smith drama King Richard in the pre-Thanksgiving slot. It's also worth noting that Mission: Impossible 7 will take the place of Paramount's Dungeons & Dragons, which has been shifted to a March 3, 2023 premiere. On its new date, Mission: Impossible 7 will have some stiff competition with an untitled Disney live-action feature, and Lionsgate's John Wick: Chapter 4 both due to arrive on the same day. It's going to be a battle for the box office on that four-day weekend, my friends.
It's also been reported that Paramount's Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is moving up from its October 22 release date to July 23rd.
Robert Schwentke directs Snake Eyes from Evan Spiliotopoulos’ screenplay. Henry Golding plays Snake Eyes, Samara Weaving is Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó is the Baroness, and Andrew Koji is Snake Eyes’ brother, and enemy, Storm Shadow.

Jackass is being moved from September 3 to October 22, 2021. The untitled Bee Gees movie from Kenneth Branagh and producer Graham King will now open on November 4, 2022. An untitled Star Trek film is set to boldly go into theaters on June 9, 2023. Meanwhile, Ron Howard's animated feature The Shrinking of Treehorn, based on Florence Parry Heide’s children’s book, will open on November 10, 2023. Last but not least, an Untitled Ryan Reynolds/John Krasinski movie is set to open on November 17, 2023.
