Trailer for the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Monsters brings the bugs

I never got around to seeing MONSTERS, but I’m guessing Gareth Edwards impressed a few people with that flick, as he is the man responsible for the GODZILLA we’ll be seeing in theaters this weekend. The original MONSTERS, dealing with a crashed probe bearing alien life that began to thrive on our planet, was an intriguing idea that Vertigo Films has decided to expand upon. That leaves us with MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT.

Check out the infestation here:

While the men behind the camera are relative unknowns, that gives them the benefit of being able to surprise us with some really strong material. This trailer is more of a teaser in that it’s establishing a tone rather than the real meat of the story, but I’m willing to go along with it if it has enough to offer.

MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT, starring Joe Dempsie, Johnny Harris, Sofia Boutella, and Kyle Soller, is currently set to be released September 26 in the UK, but we can probably expect a stateside release sometime later in 2014.

I’m not 100% sure how this will help Sofia Boutella fight monsters . . . but something tells me it will be a factor. Definitely.
