Our own Chris Bumbray got to see the violent, tongue-in-cheek satire ASSASSINATION NATION at Sundance earlier this year and gave the film a 7/10 review. There's still about three months left before a wider audience will have the chance to see the movie, which has been described as "HEATHERS meets THE PURGE", but a trailer has arrived online to offer a preview… A preview of all the elements the film contains which might trigger some viewers.
Written and directed by Sam Levinson, ASSASSINATION NATION stars Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, Abra, Anika Noni Rose, Colman Domingo, Maude Apatow, Bill Skarsgård, Joel McHale, and Bella Thorne.
The synopsis:
High school senior Lily and her group of friends live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies and chats just like the rest of the world. So, when an anonymous hacker starts posting details from the private lives of everyone in their small town, the result is absolute madness leaving Lily and her friends questioning whether they’ll live through the night.
Cut quickly with large text obscuring the images, the trailer doesn't give a whole lot to go on, although there are some nice glimpses of violence in there. This does seem to be an interesting film… it has my attention, but I'm hoping (and expecting) to see another trailer down the line that digs a little deeper into it.
ASSASSINATION NATION reaches theatres on September 21st.
