SAW II / III / IV director Darren Lynn Bousman has been wanting to take you into his ABATTOIR for quite a while now. He came up with the initial story idea years ago, and it was turned into a six issue comic book series that was published by Radical Comics in 2010 – 2011. The film version got off the ground in 2014 and made its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival back in June.

On August 29, ABATTOIR will be reaching a wider audience when it's released through digital download in the UK, with a UK DVD and Blu-ray release scheduled to follow on September 19. With this release news comes a trailer, which SciFiNow got the exclusive first look at.

That trailer can be seen below, and from watching it I get the impression that Bousman has crafted one hell of a cool haunted house movie here.

Scripted by David J. Schow, Teddy Tenenbaum, and Christopher Monfette, ABATTOIR centers on

a real estate reporter who unearths an urban legend about a house being built from rooms where horrific tragedies have occurred. The investigation ultimately leads to the enigmatic Jebediah Crone and the answer to the terrifying question, "How do you build a haunted house?"

Jessica Lowndes, Joe Anderson, Dayton Callie, Lin Shaye, J. LaRose, and Bryan Batt star.

We'll keep you updated as more distribution details come out. Hopefully a U.S. release will follow soon after the U.K. one, because I am now very anxious to see this movie.

As ABATTOIR makes its way out into the world, Bousman is working on developing a prequel entitled THE DWELLING.
