Trailer: Toby Kebbell and Jason Patric deal with the devil in Becoming

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It took a while for writer/director Omar Naim's supernatural thriller BECOMING to make its way out into the world. The project was originally announced in 2012, at which time Justin Bartha and Rachel Nichols were attached to star. Later Bartha and Nichols both moved on and Toby Kebbell signed on to star in the film. There's promotional art that lists Claire Holt as Kebbell's co-star. But when BECOMING finally made it into production, its two leads were Toby Kebbell and Penelope Mitchell.

Seven and a half years after it was first announced, the film is now complete and set to receive a VOD release on March 6th. In anticipation of this release, a trailer has arrived online and can be seen above.

BECOMING has the following synopsis:

While on a cross-country drive, a young woman learns her fiancé has become possessed by an entity that has been around for hundreds of years. This entity takes over male bodies, kills those around it and then moves on to its next victim. Now, this entity wants to start a family of its own with its new host’s fiancé.

Kebbell and Mitchell are joined in the cast by Beth Broderick, Melissa Bolona, and Jason Patric.

The 2012 announcement included the information that Naim's stylistic approach to this film would be to "combine the naturalism of BLUE VALENTINE with the tension of THE SHINING". That's an interesting-sounding mix.

Check out the trailer above and see if BECOMING looks like a movie you'd want to watch next month.
