Travis Fimmel and Kate Bosworth join heist flick Finding Steve McQueen

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Misleading title aside, FINDING STEVE McQUEEN actually sounds really interesting. It's a 70's-set heist movie that involves Nixon (yet, still somehow not Steve McQueen) directed by Mark Steven Johnson (of DAREDEVIL and SIMON BIRCH "fame"). It stars Kate BosworthTravis FimmelWilliam Fichtner, and Forest Whitaker. The movie itself is

based on the true story of the biggest bank heist in US history. In 1972 a gang of close-knit thieves from Youngstown, Ohio attempt to steal $30 million in illegal contributions and blackmail money from President Richard Nixon’s secret fund. Keith Sharon (“Showtime’) and Ken Hixon (“City by the Sea”) wrote the screenplay.

Now, I might lose a lot of nerd cred here, but I actually really love the 2003 Johnson-directed DAREDEVIL film. It had a lot of style to it, at the very least. Let's just hope he puts more of that style into the film instead what the hell he was trying to do with GHOST RIDER (which even that had its moments).

Also the cast looks pretty good. Bosworth is always solid, and I actually thought Fimmel was doing some interesting stuff in WARCRAFT, as uneven as that was (and I'd argue none of the problems were his). Also you can't go wrong with the Fich or GHOST DOG.

I just wonder what tone the film will have. Will it be an uber-serious HEAT-like thriller, or a more genial OCEAN'S 11-style caper? I guess time will tell.

What kind of heist films do you guys prefer?
