In what looks like a female version of THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, the teenage assassin fantasy pic VIOLET & DAISY, starring Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel, looks like a compelling mixture of different genres. The catch? It's the first features from Geoffrey Fletcher, screenwriter of none other than PRECIOUS. The odd lot is rounded out by co-stars James Gandolfini and Danny "Machete" Trejo, who fit right in with this strange, but interesting looking pic. The trailer is an artful presentation and it certainly grabs my attention as it's difficult to peg exactly what's going on.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

Two teenage assassins accept what they think will be a quick-and-easy job, until an unexpected target throws them off their plan.

Bledel has been rather quiet on the feature front, although she was solid in SIN CITY, while Ronan has begun making waves, starring most recently in HANNA, THE HOST, BYZANTIUM, and Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. She's certainly aged beautifully and has got the chops for a healthy career. I suspect VIOLET & DAISY will fly well under the radar, but could potentially slide into cult territory if it's got some bite.

VIOLET & DAISY is slated for release sometime in Summer 2013.
