Deep in a L.A. Times profile on how Guillermo del Toro struggled to bring DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK to the big-screen, a tidbit regarding Troy Nixey’s follow up film, SIMPLE MACHINES, can be located. Check this shite out…

Prior to DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, the Canadian born Nixey directed a short called “Latchkey’s Lament” that caught the eye of del Toro. The Mexican filmmaker liked what he saw so much he gave Nixey the opportunity to helm the remake of the obscure 1973 TV movie, which hits theaters Friday. And now it seems Nixey is parlaying that opportunity into his next feature!

Word is a flick called SIMPLE MACHINES, which Nixey wrote himself, is something he’s targeting as a follow up project to the languid haunted house yarn. The story, the self-described “genre guy” said, also exists in the realm of the unreal — it’s about an inventor who must save one of his creations.

Sounds pretty cool, even if a bit vague. Even cooler? Nixey’s bravado:

“I definitely have some ideas that perhaps people haven’t seen before, so I look forward to putting those on film.”

And we look forward to seeing it, don’t we?
