It’s about damn time Hailee Steinfeld catches herself a marlin!

After netting an Oscar nod for her turn in TRUE GRIT, Ms. Steinfeld is now circling the female lead of Petra in the much ballyhooed ENDER’S GAME adaptation; a potential mega-franchise for Summit Entertainment. Steinfeld is likely to take the role, as her agent is currently crossing the I’s and dotting the T’s.

As you know, Steinfeld (seen right) will star alongside Asa Butterfield (HUGO), with Odd Lot still deciding upon who should play the adult male lead in the Gavin Hood film. Earlier this morning we heard Harrison Ford may be eyeing the role, but who knows how that will turn out. Steinfeld will portray Petra Arkanian, the only girl in Salamander Army who quickly becomes Ender’s ally and trusted right hand.

It’s funny, Steinfeld is who I lobbied for to win the role of Katniss in HUNGER GAMES. In that book there’s a character called Peeta…and now Steinfeld is going to play a Petra in ENDER’S GAME. Oh those mysterious ways of the world…

Set in Earth’s future, ENDER’S GAME presents an imperiled humankind who have barely survived two conflicts with the Formics (an insectoid alien race also known as the “Buggers”). In preparation for an anticipated third invasion, an international fleet maintains a school to find and train future fleet commanders. The world’s most talented children, including the novel’s protagonist, Ender Wiggin, are taken at a very young age to a training center known as the Battle School. There, teachers train them in the arts of war through increasingly difficult games including ones undertaken in zero gravity in the Battle Room where Ender’s tactical genius is revealed.

More is it develops…
