Tyler Hoechlin & Brandon Routh to fly as Superman for Arrowverse crossover

Arrowverse, Superman, crossover

Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's … wait a minute. Is that two birds? Or two planes? Holy smokes, it's Superman! Two of them! You know what that means, don't you? It's Arrowverse crossover time, baby!

Ahead of its Comic-Con reveal, Deadline has revealed that two actors who play DC's the Man of Tomorrow, Superman, will portray the character for an upcoming crossover event. Word is that Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh will both soar as Superman, with each Man of Steel hailing from a different time frame. If you've been paying attention to the CW's Arroverse over the past few years, you'll already know that Hoechlin plays Big Blue on SUPERGIRL, while Routh plays Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. As it happens, Routh also starred as The Man of Steel for the 2006 Bryan Singer-directed superhero feature, SUPERMAN RETURNS. According to the outlet, Routh will portray both Clark Kent and Ray Palmer for the Arrowverse's special event.

Details about which episodes of the crossover will feature Hoechlin and Routh in their respective Superman roles has yet to be revealed.

As you might already be aware, the crossover is titled "Crisis on Infinite Earths," a monolithic event that will bring the worlds of ARROW, THE FLASH, SUPERGIRL, DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, and BATWOMAN together for a five-episode adventure. When "Crisis on Infinite Earths" comes to the CW, the special set of episodes will be split into two quarters, with three chapters airing in December and two wrapping up the event in January.

For the moment, there's no telling if the CW's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" will mirror the 1980s 12-issue DC Comics series of the same, an event that reset the DC mythos – much to the dismay of a subset of fans. It stands to reason that the CW's "Crisis" will serve as a way changing the game for its pantheon of superhero shows, especially given that ARROW is set to end after its Season 8 finale.

What do you think of this news? Can you handle the might of two actors playing Superman at the same time, for the same show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
