Director Andrew Traucki has proven to be a specialist in “animals attack” survival thrillers. Back in 2007, he brought us the crocodile thriller Black Water, which he co-directed with David Nerlich, and since then he’s gone solo with the shark thrillers The Reef and The Reef: Stalked, and he made a “spiritual sequel” to Black Water called Black Water: Abyss. He also made a found footage survival thriller called The Jungle, which dealt with a “forest demon” creature. Now, Deadline reports that Traucki is venturing back into crocodile territory with yet another survival thriller, this one a “high-concept” project called ULU.
Synopsis and Producers
Written and directed by Traucki, the new film has the following synopsis: Set deep in the rarely-filmed river systems and rainforests of Borneo, ULU follows a group of outsiders and locals drawn into a remote river basin, where a series of violent incidents reveal that a massive, highly territorial crocodile – long believed to exist only in legend – has been driven into deadly proximity with the humans.
It’s being produced by Borneo Pictures, with Traucki co-producing. The visual effects team is led by Steve Boyle, the founder of Formation Effects. Boyle has recently worked on the shark thrillers Beast of War and Fear Below, as well as the Anaconda reboot, so he has experience with this sort of thing.

Traucki added, “ULU is designed as a visceral theatrical experience. The river, the jungle, and the crocodile are all active forces in the story. It’s a survival thriller rooted in real environments, real pressures, and real consequences.“
