Unborn trailer

The trailer for David Goyer’s THE UNBORN plays like a game of “Can you guess what movie we’re ripping off with THIS image?” Let’s see, I spotted THE EXORCIST, THE OMEN, DON’T LOOK NOW, THE MEPHISTO WALTZ, THE RING, even John Carpenter’s PRINCE OF DARKNESS. Maybe instead of trying to be creative, it’s acting as an elaborate homage to every horror movie ever made? Hmmm…

If I’m not mistaken, this is Platinum Dunes’ first… um… original film – that is to say – it’s not a remake, intentionally. I guess you can’t blame them for getting off to a shaky start; it’s going to take a while before they can purge the idea of copying someone else’s material from their brains…

Here’s the plot: Casey Bell (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spiritual advisor, Sendak (Gary Oldman), who can make it stop.

THE UNBORN comes to us from writer/director David Goyer (writer of the BLADE trilogy) and stars the beautiful Odette Yustman (CLOVERFIELD), as well as Gary Oldman, Idris Elba, Meagan Good, James Remar, and Carla Gugino. You’ve got yourself a few uber-hotties and some damn fine character actors in there, so the cast is certainly appealing… We’ll find out if they can rise above the elements when the movie is released JANUARY 9th.

Check out the trailer (and a beautiful picture of Ms. Yustman) below and see if I missed any other movies getting ripped-off…
