Video game adaptations have been more prominent as of late to varying degrees. The Last of Us on HBO, while not a movie, seems to have avoided the curse of a bad live-action adaptation of a game. A new trailer was recently released for a series based on the game Fallout, which generally garnered a positive response, although the fans still remain on their toes, bracing for disappointment. Last year saw the long-awaited release of the Uncharted movie, which is a Playstation adventure game that lent itself to a movie, and after being in development hell for an extended time, the first movie came out to pretty lukewarm receptions.

Mark Wahlberg, who played Sully in Uncharted, spoke with The Direct to promote his new film The Family Plan and mentioned a written script for Uncharted 2 in an update for the follow-up. Wahlberg says there were different directions being considered for the continuing of the first film’s post-credit sequence. “I’ve heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody’s written a script, and they’re still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time. Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache.”

The Boogie Nights actor shared how they tried to incorporate the mustache in the first film either naturally or with a prosthetic, “I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache, and, I don’t know. I just don’t have the confidence to pull it off. It just feels like there’s a big piece of tape over my mouth, and I feel ridiculous. I admire actors who can wear wigs and prosthetics and makeup and all that stuff. I’ve successfully worn one prosthetic, but that was long ago…”

While the first movie wasn’t a hit with critics, Wahlberg would continue his mustache anecdote and segue into saying that he’s definitely open to return if the filmmakers are able to improve upon the flaws of the original film. He stated, “When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that film. So if we can make it better than the first, you know, I’d be open to it, but I only know as much as you do right now.”

Uncharted can be seen on Netflix. Meanwhile, The Family Plan hits AppleTV+ on December 15.
