1942’s CAT PEOPLE was the first production from the influential genre producer Val Lewton. The film became a box office hit and received a sequel in 1944. It was later selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. The film was remade in 1982 by Universal under the direction of Paul Schrader.
It seems that they are at it again, as STYD reports that Universal Home Entertainment is developing a new version of the tale with producer Aaron Ryder (MEMENTO, DONNIE DARKO, WRONG TURN). A script was penned by Ravel Centeno-Rodriguez (THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR) and then received a re-write from Todd Stein.
The story follows the last two surviving “cat people” in the world who have been busy feasting off the male population in Miami. They seek a Cat Man to mate with to ensure the future of their kind.
