PLOT: After being murdered by a sadistic killer, Claire Parker wakes up at the start of her day all over again. She thinks it was all a dream. Then, she ends up being killed by the same psycho again… and then wakes up back at the beginning of the day! Why is this happening to her? And is there any way she can keep from suffering the same gruesome fate at the end of the day?
REVIEW: In case you didn’t already guess by the plot synopsis, yes, Salvage is like a horror version of Groundhog Day (the Bill Murray movie, not the one within The Monster Squad). I bet that many of you haven’t heard of this flick, which makes it perfect for Unseen Halloween because it is quite the shocking little independent gem. Great acting, skillfully crafted, and with an unsettling sense of dread that creeps up the back of your spine.
Lauren Currie Lewis portrays Claire to precision, creating a character both strong and vulnerable. She carries the low budget affair by giving a performance worth millions. It’s tough to take your eyes off her. What’s also great is the fact that the filmmakers take the time to develop her and the other characters which really elevates your viewing pleasure. There’s some intense shit going on here and trust me when I say that you get invested. The brutality of Claire’s murder makes you stay on the edge of your seat since you know it has to happen again. And the reasoning for it all revealed at the end is a nicely creative jolt which only solidifies the fact that everyone involved cared about what they were making. Seek this nasty little number out!
BEST GORE BIT: There is a very gruesome and drawn out scene involving a face getting ripped off.
