In Ruben Fleischer’s 2018 Marvel Comics adaptation Venom (watch it HERE), there’s a quick sequence where the Venom symbiote bonds with the character Anne Weying (played by Michelle Williams), turning her into She-Venom so she can help her ex Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy). Now a batch of character posters have arrived online (via Bloody-Disgusting) to promote the Venom sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage – and there seems to be a hint that we’re going to see Anne become She-Venom again when the new film reaches theatres on October 1st. The other character posters focus on the characters of Eddie / Venom, the villainous Cletus Kasady / Carnage (played by Woody Harrelson), and the villainous Frances Louise Barrison / Shriek (Naomie Harris).
While the posters for Eddie and Cletus show half of their faces covered with the Venom and Carnage symbiotes, Anne’s face is symbiote-free on her poster… but there is a silhouette of She-Venom at the bottom of the image.
Directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, who crafted the story with Hardy, Venom: Let There Be Carnage doesn’t have much of a synopsis:
Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL’s greatest and most complex characters.
The actions mentioned above are joined in the cast by Reid Scott as Doctor Dan Lewis, Anne’s boyfriend; Sean Delaney in an unspecified role; and Stephen Graham as Detective Patrick Mulligan. In the comics, Mulligan also gets coated with a symbiote and becomes a character called Toxin, “more powerful than Venom and Carnage combined”.
While this film is based on Marvel Comics characters, it is not officially connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, it’s part of what Sony is calling their Spider-Man Universe – formerly known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material, and suggestive references.
I didn’t like Venom very much and don’t have high hopes for this sequel, but I’m definitely going to be watching it.
