Earlier this month, Sony pushed the release of the Venom (watch it HERE) sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage back from September 24th to October 15th. Although there were some rumors last week that the film might get delayed again, this time to January of 2022, a new poster has arrived online to assure that, as of right now, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is still expected to reach theatres on October 15th. This release date puts it in direct competition with Universal’s new Halloween sequel, Halloween Kills.
The first Venom film and the previous Halloween movie were both released in October of 2018, but that year there were two weeks between their release dates.
A Marvel Comics adaptation that is not officially connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (instead, it’s part of what Sony is calling their Spider-Man Universe – formerly known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters), Venom: Let There Be Carnage was directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, who crafted the story with star Tom Hardy.
Hardy reprises the role of journalist Eddie Brock, who becomes the anti-hero Venom when coated with an alien symbiote. He is joined in the cast by Woody Harrelson as serial killer Cletus Kasady, who becomes the symbiote-coated villain Carnage; Naomie Harris as a character called Shriek, an associate of Carnage’s; Michelle Williams as Eddie’s ex Anne; Reid Scott as Doctor Dan Lewis, Anne’s boyfriend; Sean Delaney in an unspecified role; and Stephen Graham as Detective Patrick Mulligan. In the comics, Mulligan also gets coated with a symbiote and becomes a character called Toxin, “more powerful than Venom and Carnage combined”.
I’m still not sure if I’m going to be going to see movies in the theatre yet in October, but if so a double feature of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Halloween Kills sounds like a fun time.
