Be prepared for yet another American remake of a foreign horror film, as Variety reports that Vertigo Entertainment has signed on to produce the remake of SIGAW (aka THE ECHO).
If you remember from last year, the original SIGAW made its North American debut at Screamfest LA. The story for the film concerns an ex-con being holed up in a cursed apartment when he tries to intervene in an abusive situation with the neighbors (reminds me of the plot from SILENT HILL 4: THE ROOM, save for the ex-con business and neighbours). Helmer-director Yam Laranas will reprise his role behind the camera for the remake, going off a screenplay by Eric Bernt (THE HITCHER remake). Filming for the flick begins in March in Gotham.
The film will be produced by Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison, with Shintaro Shimosawa and Tyler Mitchell. Comparably, the film will receive an upgrade in coin ($5 million from the original’s $300K), which was provided by Robert Hoff and his RightOff Entertainment. In return, Hoff, along with Bernt, get exec producer credits.
