Video of the trailer of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes!

If you’re selling me on the technical wizardry behind RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, I’m sold. Everything we saw yesterday in the WETA livestream and today in the brand new trailer for the film, the mo-cap realization of the apes is phenomenal. But do some impressive FX make a movie?

Beyond the apes (which sounds like it could be the title of the sequel), I’m not sure that I’m sold. James Franco seems to be turning in another one of his performances where he’s not really committing to the part.

I also think it’s slightly misleading to sell audiences on the late 3rd act carnage that breaks out once the apes rise. The vast majority of this movie is a sci-fi drama with the stuff on the Golden Gate Bridge coming in the last few minutes of the movie. And I’m not surprised they’re using that to sell the film but I think it may make audiences impatient through some quality stuff in the earlier portions of the film. But OK, I’m rambling. Check out the trailer for yourself and let me know what you think.
