Video! We induct Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi in our Horror Hall of Fame!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's time for a new entry in HORROR HALL OF FAME video series, and the legend we're honoring in the episode embedded above is SAM RAIMI!

Raimi was just 19 when he set out to make his first feature film THE EVIL DEAD, and while it was a grueling process to get that film completed and released into the world, the result was an instant classic that kicked off one of the most inspiring careers in Hollywood. That low budget horror movie opened the door to Raimi being able to make not just more EVIL DEAD movies, but to work with A-list stars on projects like DARKMAN, THE QUICK AND THE DEAD, A SIMPLE PLAN, FOR LOVE OF THE GAME, THE GIFT, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, and of course the blockbuster SPIDER-MAN trilogy. He has another major crowd-pleaser lined up with the DOCTOR STRANGE sequel, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS.

But even while making massive superhero movies, Raimi hasn't ditched the genre that gave him his start. He followed the SPIDER-MAN films by directing the horror film DRAG ME TO HELL, and is a prolific producer of genre films, with his producing credits including THE GRUDGE, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, the 2013 version of EVIL DEAD, a remake of POLTERGEIST, DON'T BREATHE, and CRAWL.

Because of all this and more (don't forget his acting work in things like INTRUDER, THE STAND, and THOU SHALT NOT KILL… EXCEPT!), Raimi is well deserving of a spot in our Horror Hall of Fame.

The HORROR HALL OF FAME series was created by Benjamin Skinner and Produced by John Fallon. The idea behind the show:

What does it take to become a Horror icon? Whether it be the Filmmakers orchestrating the frights, the Artists crafting the gore, or the Actors engineering the scares, this series takes an in-depth look at the men and women who paved the way for the way for an entire generation of horror fans, and made the genre what it is today.
