Vin Diesel says Fast Forever script is the best he’s read in decades: “I’m still crying”

Vin Diesel continues to be the biggest hype-man for Fast Forever, which apparently has “the best script” he’s read in decades. It’s been over three years since the release of Fast X, and at this point, I’m not entirely convinced the long-awaited conclusion to the Fast & Furious saga will even happen.

Vin Diesel on Fast Forever Script

The Fast and the Furious will be returning to theaters on August 21 to celebrate its 25th anniversary (good lord), and Diesel shared the trailer for the re-release on Instagram. In the caption, he teased that he recently read the script for Fast Forever by Michael Lesslie, which left him in tears because it was just so good.

You have no idea… When March 17th 2028 comes… I just read the ‘Fast Forever’ script by Mike Leslie. It is the best script I have read in decades. I am still crying.

If it doesn’t set a new record for how many times Dom grunts “family” while downing a Corona, I’m out.

The sequel is currently slated for a March 17, 2028 release, but it remains to be seen if that date will stick. Five years is a hell of a wait to find out how the Fast X cliffhanger will be resolved.

The Budget is a Huge Problem

Fast X had a massive budget, and the film’s relatively modest box office performance forced Universal Studios to insist on bringing the cost down for Fast Forever. Alan Ritchson, who played Aimes in Fast X, is expected to return for Fast Forever, and he recently said that the sequel, as it currently stands, is just too expensive to make.

I know a lot, we have conversations all the time, I’m a big part of those conversations,” Ritchon said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “There’s just a lot of obstacles. It’s expensive to make— it’s too expensive; it doesn’t make a ton of sense. There’s a more efficient way to shoot those shows. And so there has to be a way to show restraint, while also honoring the fact that this world has expanded to something humongous. We are at the crossroads of something very hard to figure out, and everybody’s figuring it out.

Despite the struggles, Ritchson is confident that Fast Forever will happen, one way or another. “There’s going to be another one, and I think it’s going to be great,” he said. “It’s just a matter of solving some big problems.

The Big Finish

As much as I might enjoy talking shit about the franchise (which I actually do like), I honestly hope all this waiting will be worth it and that Diesel and company can deliver a powerful and fitting finale.

It’s hard not to love these characters and the ridiculous action they get up to. And the series has taken such a remarkable trajectory, from its humble street-racing origins to global spy hijinks which even sent the team to outer space… I mean, come on. I can’t think of many franchises that have changed quite like this one.

What are your hopes for Fast Forever? Will it actually get made? Let us know in the comments.
