Vin Diesel has been hard at work filming the ninth movie in the FAST AND FURIOUS saga, on top waiting around for the new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY to get going, and it seems he may also be gearing up for another entry in yet a third franchise of his. Celebrating a birthday recently, the star took to Instagram to talk about the things he likes to talk about in these videos he does, and at the end revealed that one of the gifts he got was the script for a fourth RIDDICK movie from writer/director David Twohy. No word yet if it came with a $20 bill inside.

The script reveal came with an official title – RIDDICK 4: FURYA – and a tagline: “Everyone wants to be a beast until it’s time to do what real beasts do.”

The RIDDICK franchise goes all the way back to the first entry, PITCH BLACK, which was released in 2000, one year before the first FAST AND FURIOUS. The movies have never been massive hits, the first making $53 million globally off a modest $23 million budget, but the sequel, CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, was considered a large bomb, making $115 million globally off a $105 million budget. A third entry, RIDDICK, came nine years later and with a lower budget ($38 million) fared a bit better with $98 million worldwide. It’s been years since any news has come out about a fourth film, which was announced back in 2014 and with production set to begin as far back as 2017.

Look, the RIDDICK movies aren't really my thing, nor do I know of anyone who recalls them fondly. But clearly, there are people out there watching these movies enough to make everyone involved feel like there should be more, so I guess I can be happy for them that they're going to get this fourth movie they so crave. The only hope I would have is that they don't make the same mistake they did with CHRONICLES and triple the budget and make it a sci-fi epic because these movies don't seem to have that massive of a fanbase to validate such a huge production. Get it small, keep it gritty, and then maybe in 2027 they can make a fifth one.
