Vin Diesel says that a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter is in the works

Vin Diesel is involved in no shortage of franchises thanks to his roles in the FAST & FURIOUS saga and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not every film is destined to spawn a series, and that seemed to be the case for THE LAST WITCH HUNTER. The 2015 fantasy/action film starred Diesel as Kaulder, a centuries old witch hunter who must protect present-day New York City when the Witch Queen returns to unleash a horrific plague. Prior to the release of THE LAST WITCH HUNTER, Diesel said that Lionsgate was already interested in a sequel, but following the film's lackluster box-office and largely negative reviews, those sequel dreams quickly evaporated.

However, it seems that you should never say never as Vin Diesel revealed to Collider that the studio is getting the ball rolling on a belated sequel to THE LAST WITCH HUNTER. Diesel was asked how he moves forward when a passion project isn't as successful as he would have liked.

As an artist, the more experienced I get, the more I am appreciating just the fact that my work somehow finds you and that you get to experience it at your own time and at your own pace, and I’m less concerned – and maybe it’s because of accolades. Maybe it’s because I’m a part of Avengers or I’m a part of Disney, I’m a part of Guardians and I’m a part of Fast and I’ve had so much of that wonderful experience that I think the higher thinking becomes – when people tell me that they love the Witch Hunter, and they want to see Michael Caine and I go into another one, I go, ‘Wow!’

Diesel continued: "Lionsgate is coming and saying, ‘We’re putting a writer on for the next one.’ That’s kinda cool! … And this is just recent, by the way. But it’s funny that you mentioned Last Witch Hunter because I’m in a meeting with Lionsgate and they’re actively creating the sequel to The Last Witch Hunter." Well, there you have it. Who knows whether THE LAST WITCH HUNTER sequel will actually see the light of day, but I'm sure there are some of you out there who would be eager for a return to the witch-hunting adventures of Kaulder.

Speaking of Vin Diesel franchises, the release of another potential franchise for the actor is just days away. BLOODSHOT, based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name, is slated to hit theaters on March 13th. Here's the synopsis:

Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.
