I hope you’ve been a good movie fan this year because Universal Pictures is about to bring us the gift of a Violent Night trailer later this week. According to reports, a trailer for the upcoming holiday-action thriller comes to town on Wednesday, and we’re ready to get into the spirit.

Tommy Wirkola directs from a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. The plot revolves around a team of elite mercenaries who break into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage. However, the team is in for a surprise when Santa Claus arrives, and he’s ready to show why his Nick isn’t a saint.

David Leitch and Kelly McCormick of 87North Productions produce Violent Night. The film stars David Harbour as Santa Claus, with John Leguizamo (Land of the Dead), Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation), Alexis Louder (Copshop), Cam Gigandet (Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse), André Eriksen (Norsemen), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), and newcomer Alex Haskell.

JoBlo’s Chris Bumbray caught a preview of the Violent Night trailer at CinemaCon, and described the footage as follows:

“David Harbour is Santa, and he’s pissed off. A family suffers a home invasion, with John Leguizamo the head of a terrorist crew. The family’s child begs Santa for help and he shows up with his Elves to kill all of the terrorists. Nonstop action. Looks demented. Very much in the vein of Nobody. Should make David Harbour (and Santa Claus!) an action icon.”

Violent Night is coming to town and setting up shop in theaters on December 2. I love the concept of this movie. It reminds me of the faux Santa Claus movie from Scrooged or the “Weird Al” song, “The Night Santa Went Crazy.” I’ll be bundling up and riding my sleigh to the theater for this movie. There’s no doubt about that. How about you? Let us know if you’re excited about Violent Night in the comments.
