Voltage Films finds director for bizarre sci-fi thriller Near Death

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Variety is reporting that Nicholas Chartier's Voltage Films has just assigned Gabriele Muccino (seen right) to helm the sci-fi thriller NEAR DEATH.

Before we move on, it's worth noting that:

Near Death” centers on a near-death survivor who starts predicting future events and acting in bizarre ways while his wife notices the world itself changing all around her in impossible ways. Fearing for her sanity, she investigates and uncovers a massive conspiracy that bridges space and time."

Sounds like a pretty cool premise, no? Not only that, but Voltage must feel pretty confident that Muccino can aptly realize the material, as he's already on familiar ground with Voltage. You see, he directed the Russell Crowe picture FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS, which also stars Amanda Seyfried (below) and Aaron Paul. Let's hope that when NEAR DEATH starts casting in October, Muccino can land equivalent acting talent.

Carter Blanchard wrote the script for NEAR DEATH (he's also rewriting INDEPENDENCE DAY for Fox), while Muccino can fall back on the big-budget directorial likes of THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS and SEVEN POUNDS.

More on NEAR DEATH as it kicks up…
