Want to see what Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio will look like?

Back in February we confirmed the news that Guillermo del Toro was producing a dark, edgy 3D stop-motion PINOCCHIO to the big screen with director Gris Grimly. This version will bring the tale back to its creepy, surreal roots – which I guess is just what you’d expect coming from Del Toro and his MIMIC/DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK co-writer Matthew Robbins. You can throw in the fact that Nick Cave will be the music supervisor for added weirdness.

We saw some production art from the film at the time (including the image above), and now the director has provided, via Twitter, a look at a maquette of Pinocchio himself. No, this freaky little dude is most definitely not from the Disney vault…

Produced by the Jim Hensen company, PINOCCHIO will utilize cuting edge 3D stop-motion animation to achieve its vision. There’s no release schedule yet, but it figures to be well down the road a bit.
