War for the Planet of the Apes logo revealed; announcement coming on Sunday

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I'm still a little amazed that the modern PLANET OF THE APES films have been received so well; I'm very pleased that they have, but I honestly never expected that they would become box-office successes. RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES were excellent films and made this PLANET OF THE APES fan very happy. The third entry in the re-imagined series, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, is currently filming in Vancouver, but Matt Reeves took a little time out to post the official logo on his Twitter.

No big surprises here, but I'm intrigued by Matt Reeves' tease of a "special announcement" for WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES which is set to air during The Walking Dead this Sunday. As they've only been filming for a month and those ape effects take time, I find it hard to imagine that we'll be seeing much, if any, footage from the film, but I suppose stranger things have happened. Andy Serkis and Judy Greer have returned for WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, where they'll be joined by Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, and Gabriel Chavarria. Here's hoping that the third film can keep the series' excellent track record going.

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES hits theaters on July 14, 2017.
