Warner Bros. cancels Superman: Red Son premiere amid coronavirus threat

Due to growing concerns related to the coronavirus outbreak, Warner Bros. has opted to cancel the New York premiere for its SUPERMAN: RED SON animated feature.

Warner Bros. issued an official statement regarding the cancellation, saying that their aim is to protect "the health and welfare of its employees, talent and fans" from the ongoing threat of infection originating from the COVID-19 disease. By cancelling the event the studio hopes to mitigate the "risk of exposure" to those who were planning to attend the celebratory screening.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and we look forward to seeing you at future events," said the statement's closing remarks.

The cancellation of the studio's March 16 premiere in New York City is one of many upcoming events to be shut down or postponed amid coronavirus concerns. In recent news, the GDC (Game Developers Conference) was postponed until later this year, after representatives from a number of major game-related studios dropped out. Hollywood is also feeling the effects of coronavirus with a number of productions being halted as the number of those infected continues to rise.

Directed by Sam Liu, SUPERMAN: RED SON is based on the 2003 comic book of the same name by Mark Miller, Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett. The upcoming animated adaptation stars Jason Isaacs as Kal-El, Amy Acker as Lois Lane, Diedrich Bader as Lex Luthor, Phil Morris as James Olsen, Phil LaMarr as John Stewart, Vanessa Marshall as Wonder Woman, Sasha Roiz as Hal Jordan, Roger Craig Smith as Batman, Paul Williams as Brainiac and William Salyers as Joseph Stalin. The stoy presents DC fans with an alternate take on Superman with the Caped Crusader arriving as a Soviet hero after his rocket lands in the USSR.
