Looks like THE HUNGER GAMES may have some competition in the near future…

According to THR, Warner Brothers has acquired movie rights to Maggie Stiefvater’s young adult novel THE SCORPIO RACES. David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith (BEETLEJUICE 2) are set to produce under their KatzSmith production eave.

Out only this week, SCORPIO RACES involves mythological flesh-eating horses from Celtic lore, a scraggy island that hosts an annual race, a young horse trainer and a young woman (the first female to enter the competition) who eventually fall for each other.

I dig the flesh eating horses biz, but the unrequited love angle? Far too played!

In fact, I’ll be honest. The only real way I can get behind SCORPIO RACES is if Grahame-Smith adapts the novel himself. Dude wrote ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, the books and screenplays. He also adapted DARK SHADOWS for Tim Burton. Guy’s clearly talented, question becomes, how young does he want to skew his readers? You think he will adapt SCORPIO RACES himself? Should he?

Better yet, let us know how you feel about the premise of the story in general.
