A PG-13 horror flick called BEASTLY? Consider this a white flag.

All suspicion aside, it looks like we just reeled in a new 3 minute behind-the-scenes featurette for Daniel Barnz’s modern day take on Beauty and the Beast, where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love. The project comes by way of CBS Films, who have already announced that BEASTLY will have apparel and accessories, social expressions and gaming eyed for consumer product treatment for the film’s marketing. Oh boy…

Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Neil Patrick Harris, Alex Pettyfer, Mary-Kate Olson, Peter Krause, Dakota Johnson, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Erik Knudson, and Gio Perez – here’s a more in depth rundown for the picture:

Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) has it all — looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity — and a wicked cruel streak. Prone to mocking and humiliating “aggressively unattractive” classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra, inviting her to the school’s extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is — a task he considers impossible.

In the behind-the-scenes look below, listen to stars Vanessa Hudgens, NPH, Alex Pettyfer speak about the film, what it’s ultimately about, what motivates certain characters, how much fun it was to work on the project, etc. etc.

While I can definitively say this isn’t my particular cup of booze, I will say Vanessa Hudgens looks pretty damn good here…if anyone carries stiff wood for this young lady, you might wanna check out the flick when it hits theaters this July.

Would you be surprised to learn that Dakota Johnson (above) is the daughter of Mr. Miami Vice Don Johnson?!?
