THE LOVELY BONES, Peter Jackson’s heart-wrenching drama has certainly been met with its fair share of criticisms. Too emotionally detached some found it, while Jackson’s representation of the hereafter has been deemed a tad too artificial. Be that as it may, the flick not only has its scant supporters (peep The Arrow’s glowing review HERE), it’s also being released wide this weekend (Jan. 15th). I know, I know…2 days is an eternity, right? Don’t fret, ’cause you can clock the first 5 minutes of the flick below!
Based on the Alice Sebold best-seller, and boasting an A-list roster of players including Saoirse Ronin, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, Michael Imperioli, and Thomas McCarthy – The flick is more or less a blend of police procedural and existential lament, told from the eyes of a posthumous 14 girl year old in heaven. Torn between vengeance and her ability to help her family grieve, the girl watches over her loved ones and is left to make an ultimate decision.
Hopefully the wider release of the film will bring greater recognition to Stanley Tucci’s performance, who I long ago gushed as Oscar bait. Not so sure that’ll happen, but hey, we’ve still got a couple of months!
If you saw the flick already, tell us what you thought of it below. If you have not, check the opener out and tell us if it piques any (or further) interest!
Susan Sarandon has some very lovely…uh…bones!
