Proving that no comic book franchise is too obscure to get picked up for a big screen adaptation these days, Warner Bros. has hired Adam Turner to script DC Comics‘ DOOM PATROL.
Similar to X-MEN in many repects, the cast of characters includes Elasti-Girl, Negative Man and Robotman.
According to Variety the series, created by Bob Haney, Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani, ceased in 1968 after failing to woo a big audience. DC revived the series several times over the years, however, with more recent incarnations turning “Doom Patrol” into a much darker, edgier comic than “X-Men.”
Darker and edgier works for me. The one major benefit for the filmmakers on this project is that without a large and rabid fan base to answer to, they should be able to concentrate on what translates best to screen rather than appeasing everyone’s idea of how it should be done.
Don’t be surprised if we hear more details on the flick at Comic Con.
