WEEKLY SLAUGHTER #9

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

Now that it’s November, the onslaught of horror has receded a bit, but at least we get a theaterical release, even if it is PG-13 ‘trash’. The DVD shelves are light this week as well, with a couple of awesome 3 packs (for the price of 1!), an 80s stalker classic and a little indie horror flick that’s been high on the must-see list around these parts. Dig in!

THE RETURN

Rated: PG-13 for violence, terror and disturbing images.

Directed by Asif Kapadia

Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kate Beahan, Peter O’Brien

Joanna Mills is a tough young Midwesterner determined to learn the truth behind the increasingly terrifying supernatural visions that have been haunting her. She has made a successful career for herself, as sales representative for a trucking company; but her private life has been difficult. Estranged from her father, stalked by an obsessed ex-boyfriend, and with few friends in her life, Joanna fears that she is losing control. She sees and feels the brutal murder of a young woman she’s never met, at the hands of a heartless killer–a man who appears to be making Joanna his next target. Determined to fight back, Joanna is guided by her nightmares to the murdered woman’s hometown. Once there, she will discover that some secrets can’t be buried; some spirits never die; and that the murder she is trying to solve may be her own.

IT’S ALIVE 3-PACK

Rated: R

Directed by Larry Cohen, Jerry Jameson

Starring Frederic Forrest, Kathleen Lloyd, John P. Ryan, John Marley, Andrew Duggan.

It’s newborn. It’s Alive (Disc 1). And murder is what it knows best! A proud couple’s bundle of joy is really a newborn terror in filmmaker Larry Cohen’s cautionary cult hit that tapped into environmental fears. The horror grows when multiple child monsters rampage in It Lives Again (Disc 2/Side A) – and as two brave parents try to stop them by becoming the bait for their spree. The now global terrors are rounded up and relocated to a far-flung island (but not for long!) in It’s Alive III: Island of the Alive (Disc 2/Side B). Will a parent’s greatest nightmare become the world’s gravest fear? Find out…if you dare.

Set in the year 2010, Dr. Moreau (Brando) has successfully combined human and animal DNA to make a crossbreed animal. Well, as usual, something goes wrong and David Thewlis must try to stop it before it is too late.

John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a fiendish underworld controlled by a group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Now Murdoch must find a way to stop them before they take control of his mind and destroy him.

An alien is on the run in America. To get his kicks, it kills anything that gets in its way, and uses the body as a new hiding place. This alien has a goal in life; power. Hotly pursued by another alien (who’s borrowed the body of a dead FBI agent), lots of innocent people die in the chase.
