Here’s one for the little guy! First time director Jonathan Levine, and first time production company Occupant Films, debuted their first time movie ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE at the Toronto Film Festival, and within a few hours… had it picked up for distribution by the Weinstein Co.!
If that doesn’t spell ‘phenomenal success’ then I don’t know what does, as a scenario like that doesn’t happen very often – actually, practically never. But with good buzz, and critics foaming at the mouth, it was only a matter of time MANDY LANE was gonna to start turning heads and picked up for wider distribution. A throwback to 80s horror and the teen slasher flick, MANDY LANE goes a little something like this:
Reminiscent of 1980s teen-slashers, the movie is centered on the title character, an all-achieving popular girl who is a track star and the crush of every boy at school. Mandy heads off to a weekend of debauchery at a ranch with a group of friends, and soon it all goes wrong and the killing begins.
NICE! Apparently it’s to the horror genre what BRICK (great film) was to film noir, which could only mean good times ahead. Plus, it’s a teen slasher flick! When was the last good teen slasher flick? Yeah, those don’t seem to happen all that often anymore.
No telling when the Weinstein Co. plans on releasing the film (which they picked up for $3M-$4M), but we’ll keep you posted, as the flick sounds too good to be true (though the title needs to be a wee bit shorter). And to check out the entire triumphant story, go ahead and click HERE.
